Here's another video I shot this summer for MPORA and Relentless. A day in the life of Jayce Robinson around the St Ives area. Some waves, some spear fishing, and some food. This was great to shoot because Jayce doesn't like to get up too early so I didn't have to be at the beach for 5am or anything stupid like that. Good times....

Mr B Short Films on 'The Big Screen' - Plymouth City Centre

Two of Mr B's short surf films are currently playing on 'The Big Screen' in Plymouth city centre. The films are on a playlist that play at various times during the day. The first two films will be playing until mid November/ early December. Following this two other Mr B films will be playing for a month. Film details below:

In July 2008 I released 'Substance'. Entirely shot in Britain and Ireland, this film really does show the range and the quality of the waves on offer as well as the level of talent in the UK and Ireland at the moment. With reviews such as: "Without a shadow of a doubt the best British surf movie of all time" - Wavelength Magazine, "The first truly professional home grown high performance film, something we can all be proud of" - Fins Magazine, "Without doubt the best UK surf film to date" - Pitpilot Magazine it has been received really well. In the bonus features there is an innovative feature called the 'Substance Shootout' - a dvd / online voting competition which James Hendy won for the best barrel! I wanted to deliver the most complete package yet with this film so working with Mindscape.ie who produced all the graphics I released the film with a special edition DVD case with booklet.

Back in February 2006 I was shooting with Alastair Mennie and Andrew Cotton in Ireland for my first film 'Performing Monkeys'. We had no intention of making a documentary but one crazy event would change that. After Andrew Cotton experienced one of the most impressive wipeouts I've ever seen, there were all sorts of speculation about what happened and we wanted to show exactly what happened so we decided to make a documentary. We shot nearly every session of the following winter season, and a couple of big summer swells at Aileens. The resulting film follows Al and Cotty from their first ever tow training session together, one of the craziest wipeouts, some epic big wave sessions, exploring new spots and all the trials and difficulties that go with chasing big waves in Ireland.

Since the film came out Al and Cotty have been nominated and attended the Billabong XXL awards, competed in the Tow Surf World Cup in Chile (and came 10th) and have been invited to other prestigious tow surfing events. They have also continued to have some great tow-surfs in Ireland. Cotty has spent the winter in Hawaii hoping for some big sessions, unfortunately it didn't get big enough for the best big wave spots to break properly but he did manage to get a few big tow surfs on some outer reefs.

I had such a great time traveling with Al and Cotty around Ireland, searching for waves, witnessing some crazy stuff, finding new waves, and generally just laughing a lot and having a great time.

If your unfamiliar with Mr B Productions surf films then read on... During my time at Plymouth College of Art and Design I started to shoot the BPSA (now UK Pro Surf Tour) events and when the organisers saw how keen I was; invited me to shoot the 'BPSA Champion of Champion' events held in A-Bay, Sri Lanka. Spending about seven to eight hours filming in the water a day I got to know some of the surfers and arranged to hook up with them back home - Oli Adams and Toby Atkins were particularly keen. A year and a half later (August 2006) and I released my first production - 'Performing Monkeys'. We had an amazing premiere at a completely packed out venue - The Walkabout in Newquay. At the time of making this film, myself and many of the surfers were getting sick of the whole 'Jack Johnson' fever taking over the sport so I purposefully went for a more 'Taylor Steele' style of film and tried to take a more light hearted approach.

Blurb - Performing Monkeys is aimed at inspiring surfers in Britain & Ireland through high performance surfing in our own waves in all conditions. I wanted to show what is possible surfing in Britain and Ireland and show all the amazing aspects of surfing in this country - from huge airs to big wave surfing to Severn Bore river surfing. I also wanted to keep the film fun and easy to watch making sure the film doesn't take itself too seriously. I think the result is an exciting and fun film that inspires you to get out there.
